Reservoir Fields Community Radio Club Formed in July 2026. Affiliated to RSGB.
The origin of the name is based on the clubs location at the Reservoir Fields at the north east corner of Barry, where the reservoir was established in the 1880’s and since has fed the town of Barry with it’s water.

Reservoir Fields Community Radio Club welcomes anybody with an interest in radio communications, whilst being a radio amateur club we encourage all radio enthusiasts from all parts of the radio spectrum as we all share that common interest, Radio Communications.
Radio Communications provides many ways to keep in touch, provide essential community, local, national and international links for both leisure and emergency needs.
For those who remember BT’s strapline “It’s good to talk” associated with BT TV/radio advertising from the mid-1990s, featuring actor Bob Hoskins in the commercials, “It’s good to talk” is as good today as it was back then.
The club is a great way to bring people together, communicating is great for building the health and wellbeing of individuals (some who may often be living alone) by making use of radio to reach others, as the hobby is inclusive and accessible to all.
The hobby of Radio Communications has many facets that attract many individuals of all walks of life to contribute to the club, from general chit chat, use of computers integrated with PC’s and software data packages working either locally, globally or via space, the hobby offers something for everyone’s interest in communicating.
Reservoir Fields Community Radio Club has the beauty of looking down on the location where radio began. With stunning views across the Bristol Channel, we look down on Flatholm Island where Guglielmo Marconi, the Italian inventor who helped pioneer long-distance radio communication (early wireless telegraphy) began his experiments.
